چکیده
Spatial synchrony of population fluctuations is an important tool for predicting regional stability. Its application to natural systems still limited by the complexity ecological time series displaying great variation in frequency and amplitude their fluctuations, which are not fully resolved current theories spatial synchrony. In particular, while environmental dispersal can each control dynamics need resolve role on stability heterogeneous metacommunities. Here, we adopt a predator–prey metacommunity model study response dispersal-driven phase locking modulation among-patch heterogeneity carrying capacity. We find that occurs at intermediate values habitat heterogeneity. also show how emerge metacommunities autonomously oscillating populations as well through forcing local communities equilibrium. Frequency was further found produce temporal amplitudes, promoting cyclic patterns variability. Our results highlight importance approaching non-stationary phenomenon, with implications assessment interpretation observed experimental systems.

Phase and amplitude dynamics of nonlinearly coupled oscillators.
This paper addresses the amplitude and phase dynamics of a large system of nonlinearly coupled, non-identical damped harmonic oscillators, which is based on recent research in coupled oscillation in optomechanics. Our goal is to investigate the existence and stability of collective behaviour which occurs due to a play-off between the distribution of individual oscillator frequency and the type ...
متن کاملFactors controlling community structure in heterogeneous metacommunities.
1. Modern theories of species coexistence recognize the importance of environmental heterogeneity. 2. Despite the existence of many observational studies, few experimental studies have evaluated the extent to which, and mechanisms by which, fixed spatial heterogeneity increases community diversity and alters community structure. 3. In experimental protist communities, we found that non-spatial ...
متن کاملAmplitude and phase dynamics of noisy oscillators
A description in terms of phase and amplitude variables is given, for nonlinear oscillators subject to white Gaussian noise described by Itô stochastic differential equations. The stochastic differential equations derived for the amplitude and the phase are rigorous, and their validity is not limited to the weak noise limit. If the noise intensity is small, the equations can be efficiently solv...
متن کاملTargeted control of amplitude dynamics in coupled nonlinear oscillators.
We propose a general strategy for designing coupling functions in order to achieve a desired amplitude dynamics in coupled nonlinear oscillators. The target dynamics achieved by the proposed control schemes is a fixed-point motion at a desired amplitude level or a periodic motion at a desired frequency. The control schemes are illustrated with Rössler and Hindmarsh-Rose oscillators.
متن کاملCompetition-colonization dynamics in experimental bacterial metacommunities.
One of the simplest hypotheses used to explain species coexistence is the competition-colonization trade-off, that is, species can stably coexist in a landscape if they show a trade-off between competitive and colonization abilities. Despite extensive theory, the dynamics predicted to result from competition-colonization trade-offs are largely untested. Landscape change, such as habitat destruc...
